SHOOK is a series of portraits accompanied by digital illustrations that delve into how visual art can upset tropes of visual expectation. With the use of cosmetics, the portraits defamiliarize and disorient the viewer in order to show different perspectives of using materials. The digital illustrations expand the concept further by deconstructing the portraits to make disorienting patterns and forms.
Thea Heck received her MFA in Emergent Media in May of 2020. She chooses the creative process to express the unique relationships between digital and physical medium, she has a new found interest in creating disorientation utilizing cosmetics. She is an experienced Graphic Designer with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education industry, including, as a social media and User Interface designer.
